About Baisakhi

Baisakhi restaurant on the front of Paseo Maritimo in Palma has been delighting guests with its Indian cuisine for over 10 years.

We noticed the restaurant immediately from the traditional Indian looking exterior and from the wall that Bhupendra Gupta, the owner, has dedicated to his collection of excellent reviews he has received from various publications over the years. As you enter the restaurant the combination of traditional decor, the smell of incense, Indian antiques and rose petals strewn over the floor and the tables creates a fantastic atmosphere really taking you away to another place altogether.

The restaurant serves a set menu of Indian cuisine; we first received a tasty basket of starters with numerous dips from tasty to burning hot. Next came my favourite dish of the night, baby chicken cooked in a rich creamy sauce, onions and raisins. The chicken was so soft falling off the bone and the sizzling onions and sauce was just amazing.

For mains we had a selection of five curries with rice and different types of bread. The curries included a beef curry, chicken curry, a banana curry, a lentil curry and an ostrich curry. All of the curries were delicious in particular the ostrich curry and it really brought me round to the set menu concept. So often do I go to an Indian restaurant and order the same thing over and over again, this way you get to try something new and enjoy numerous different flavours. The menu changes from day to day so you never know what curries are going to come out of the kitchen.

The meal finished with some fresh green and mint tea with a selection of tasty desserts and a shot of coconut liqueur all for the reasonable price of only 32.90€ a head (red wine and water included). Maybe next time I will see my review on his wall of fame, as I like others before me have certainly been taken in by Baisakhi.
