Cuevas del Drach, meaning caves of the dragon, is situated on the west coast of Mallorca next to the picturesque town of Puerto Cristo. The caves are impressive, especially if you have never visited a cave of this size before - it really is like stepping into another world. The caves are 2 kilometers long and well lit so you are able to see them in all their beauty. There are thousands upon thousands of stalagmites and stalactites spread across walls of three chambers, Cueva Negra, Cueva Blanca and Cueva Luis Salvator. The caves are especially famous for the underground lake ‘Lago Martel’, named after Edouard-Alfred Martel who explored the caves in 1896. The underground lake is supposedly one of the largest in the world and every hour the lights are switched off and three boats are rowed across the lake accompanied by the sound of classical music performed by musicians on the boats. After the show you are able to take a short trip on one of the boats yourself and be rowed down the lake. The Cuevas del Drach is the most popular tourist attraction on the island so can get very busy in the Summer months; it is therefore best to arrive for either the first or the last tour of the day. The tour lasts around an hour and there is a restaurant at the entrance and a small gift shop. Daily Tours with Concert. 1st April – 31st October (10.00h, 11.00h, 12.00h, 14.00h, 15.00h, 16.00h, 17.00h), 1st November – 31st March (10.45h, 12.00h, 14.00h, 15.30h) Adults 9,50€, Children under 7 free.
