As you would expect at such a popular holiday destination, car hire is big business in Mallorca and there are many companies to choose from. The standard of roads is good and upgrading is a constant process. We find that road signage is comprehensive and clear and that getting around between towns is fairly straightforward. However, some of the older areas still have narrow streets, (which, of course, adds to their charm) and one-way streets are a feature of most towns. Most companies will hire a SatNav device to you with the car, which will help you with this, and with locating parking areas, fuel stations, places of interest, hotels, and so on.
If you are visiting the island, it is best to make your car reservation in advance. You will be met by a company representative and you will be on your way in no time. Particularly in the peak summer months, arranging a hire car on arrival can be a deeply tedious and often disappointing experience.
