Markets

There are street markets everyday in villages and towns across Mallorca. In most cases, the focus is on seasonal fresh produce, with the addition of the odd stall selling clothing and footwear. In some of the bigger centres, the markets are often very large and they carry a wide range of items for sale, including leatherware, basketware, pottery, jewellery, lace and embroidery, and other examples of typical artisan crafts. The usual suspects selling counterfeit goods are often present at the bigger markets although there has been some official effort aimed at cutting down these practices. You should also be aware that pickpockets may be operating in crowded marketplaces. Most markets are open between 09:00 and 14:00 and it’s usually best to arrive early. It’s also a good idea to have a go at some bargaining – it never hurts to try, and you may get a price reduction with a bit of effort. It’s also fun, once you get used to it!!
